The lazy man’s guide to window tinting

Learn the ins and outs through from a customer’s perspective.

We’re going to show you the process of how we might carry out some residential window tinting. For this example, we’re using a home our team have tinted in silver reflective film. We’ll go over the benefits of this film and, most importantly, will give you an idea of whether window tinting would be worth it. Midway through this page, we’ll call halftime and run you through the benefits of window tinting for both residential and commercial properties.

So, for this project, the homeowners wanted three major things.

1. Daytime Privacy

Whenever the client was in their living room or bedroom, they wanted to have their blinds open so they could enjoy the natural daylight. Yet, at the same time, they didn’t want to worry about noisy neighbours or peeping passing strangers outside of their home. They didn’t want to have to worry about anyone looking inside their home and seeing in. They wanted their privacy – which shouldn’t be too much to ask of your own home.

2. Heat Reduction

It gets quite hot where our client is based – especially during
the summertime – and the film we intend to use blocks up to 73% of heat. If you get an even darker shade, it can block more than that, but it blocks around 73% of heat during the daytime. That means the client wouldn’t have to use their fans for additional ventilation all day long throughout the house. Therefore, window tinting would keep the house cooler and allow it to stay cool during the summertime.

3. UV Protection

The client discovered something unfortunate when the sun came through the windows and hit their floors and furniture. Over time, their leather furniture had started cracking and was beginning to fade. This isn’t a great thing to have, especially when you’ve invested so much money on getting the best floors and the best furniture for your home. UV protected window tinting can practically eliminate such issues and help save your homely goods.

So, those are the three major reasons this client wanted to get silver reflected window tinting. We also want to go inside and explain a little bit more about the installation process.

Preparing the interior for window tinting

We focus on the finer details to prevent peeling or unsightly blemishes.

Before we undertake any window tinting on any residential windows, we go through – section by section – and carry out what we call “deep window cleaning”. We have a special solution that we spray on the windows and then scrub with a scrub pad. That way, if there’s any paint, glue, or anything that’s left on the window that shouldn’t be, we go through and scrape them off with a specific type of razor blade.

We then do a final inspection to ensure there’s no dirt or debris or anything still on the windows. This way, when we install the window film, everything comes out as best as possible. Even after we’ve installed the window film, we do one last check because sometimes dirt and debris is flying in the air and does get on the film.

Once installed, we double-check all the windows to ensure that there isn’t any dirt or debris. If there is, we’ll just replace the window film and go through the entire deep window cleaning process again. We do this for two main reasons. For one, we want to ensure the best possible installation for our clients. Yet, more importantly, we want to prevent potential peeling or anything like that in future.

This way, we can verify a successful installation, and the homeowner or business is protected as it falls under the warranty.

By now, you should have a good insight into window tinting

Specifically, what it looks like on the outside, the inside, and all the benefits.

So, we went through everything from privacy to heat reduction and blocking 99% of harmful UV rays that could damage or discolour your furniture or floors. However, just because we used a specific film, that doesn’t mean it’s the only option available.

This is one of the most popular options homeowners use for their windows. However, there are so many other winning films to pick from. You can get . . .

Decorative window film

This is something we could put on the front of your door or in your home. Perhaps you could have it on the bathroom window or the windows inside your home to add privacy with a splash of pizazz.

Heat reductive film

If you just want to add a film that will reduce a lot of heat but doesn’t look like anything’s on your windows, you could get a clear film. This might look clear, but it’ll block the UV rays and any heat.

There are so many options and different shades, and different styles of window film that you can pick for your home. So, that’s why we wanted to showcase this specific project. This way, if you ever decide to get window film on your home, you’re confident, and you know what you’re getting yourself into.
